INDIANAPOLIS - Wayne State University, sitting in fifth place after day one, set three new school records during the Thursday morning prelims of the NCAA Men's Swimming Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium. Complete Results from Thursday prelims.
WSU's 400-yard Individual Medley relay team of Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Expoente), Mathias Isaksson (Vasteras, Sweden/Alleskolan), Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Princesa Isabel) and Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) broke its school record by nearly a full second. The Warriors placed eighth with a time of 3.25.58, advancing to the "A" finals tonight.
The 200 free relay of Giblin, Blanco, Pacheco and Isaksson also set a new school mark with a 16th-place time of 1:25.03 and will swim in tonight's "B" final.
Individually, Blanco broke his own school record for the 100 fly with a second-place time of 49.47.
Qualifying for the "A" final of the 400 individual IM was Wayne State sophomore A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit). He finished in seventh place with a prelim time of 4:03.88. Junior Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich./Central) will compete in the "B" final as he touched in 4:04.80 and was 10th. Freshman Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) finished in a time of 4:10.60 in 20th place.
