Men's Swimming Breaks Relay Record in Saturday Prelims

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Wayne State men's swimming team, which enters the final day of competition in seventh place, participated in just two events during Saturday's prelims at the NCAA Division II Championships, but set a new varsity record in the process.

The Warrior foursome of Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janero, Brazil/Princesa Isabel), Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Expoente), Mathias Isaksson (Vasteras, Sweden/Alleskolan), and Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) posted a time of 3:08.22 in the 400 free relay, breaking the previous WSU record by .47 seconds. They placed 15th and will swim in the "B" final tonight.

Isaksson also swam in the 200 breast and turned in a seventh-place time of 2:06.70, earning a spot in the "A" final. A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) came in 15th (2:08.84) and will swim in the "B" final.
