Preliminary Results

BUFFALO, N.Y. - In Friday's preliminary events, the Wayne State men's swimming and diving team saw two records break as six Warriors qualified to participate in tonight's finals at the NCAA Championship.

Breaking student assistant coach Christian Erard's school record (4:33.35) in the 500 freestyle, Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) qualified for tonight's "A" with a time of 4:33.24. Matt Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) finished 20th (4:41.10).

Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil) set a school record and made the "A" final in the 100 backstroke, finishing fourth (50.44), while Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) came in ninth (51.33) and will swim in the "B" final.

In the 100 breaststroke, Christer Tour's (Farsta, Sweden) third place time of 57.10 put him in the "A" final.

Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich./Central) took seventh (1:52.59) in the 200 buttefly, making the "A" final, and Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) qualified for the "B" heat with a 12th-place time of 1:53.40.
