Six members of the 2006-07 Wayne State men's swimming and diving team were named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic team. The Warriors won their second straight GLIAC Championship in 2007 and placed third at the NCAA Championships, their best-ever finish at nationals.
To be eligible for GLIAC All-Academic status, a student athlete must have: a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); must be a starter or key reserve; and must not be a freshman or first-year transfer.
Selected to the GLIAC All-Academic team were redshirt senior Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), senior Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil), juniors David Fontecchio (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams) and Matt Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern), redshirt sophomore Jamal Roberts (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech), and sophomore Per Bergstrom (Fagersta, Sweden).
Blanco, Fontecchio, and Leix were honored for the second time in their careers, while Pacheco, Roberts and Bergstrom were all eligible for the first time this season.
