Freshman Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) has earned GLIAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors.

Veiga placed first in both the 1650 (16:17.73) and 500 free (4:45.37) in Wayne State's 121-116 loss to the University of Indianapolis on Saturday at the WSU Matthaei Aquatic Center. He also helped WSU's "A" team finish third in the 400 free relay (3:22.74).

Veiga's time in the 1650 free eclipsed the NCAA Division II Men's Swimming Championship "B" qualifying standard.

He now holds five individual first-place finishes on the season, including three in the 500 free.

The men's team will next compete at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, Dec. 2-3.
