ERIE, Pa. - The Wayne State men's tennis team lost its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener, 5-4, at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., Sunday afternoon. The Warriors fall to 3-5, 0-1 GLIAC as the Lakers improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
MC opened the day with two doubles wins as WSU's Sebastien Foka (Choisy-le-Roi, France) and Miguel Cobbs (Boca Raton, Fla.) picked up an 8-5 win at No. 1.
Foka and Cobbs then won their singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 by identical 7-6, 6-4 scores. But the Warriors managed just one more singles win was as Adam Williams (Northville, Mich./Eastern Michigan) won by default at No. 4.
Wayne State has 13 days off until it travels to Kalamazoo College on Feb. 26.
