Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Wayne State men's tennis team's come-from-behind rally fell short as the Warriors dropped a hard fought non-conference match to Kalamazoo College, 5-4, at the Markin Center club Sunday afternoon.
WSU (2-3) dug itself in a hole losing all three matches during doubles competition as Kalamazoo college too an early 3-0 lead.
During singles play, the Warriors mounted a come back as sophomore Antoine Marenaud (Bordeaux, France/Camille Jullian) rallied from a set down to defeat Jason Brown 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at the No. 1 position while freshman Johan Maubacq (Bussy St. Georges, France) took out Matt Wise in sraight sets, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 2 slot. Senior Alejandro Gomez (Comitan Chiapas, Mexico/Instituto Moderno Comitan) also upended Tim Hubbard, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 while senior Donavon Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) also rallied from asset down to defeat Patrick Boyd, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1. However, Kalamazoo was able to seal the match with wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions for the 5-4 victory.
WSU begins conference play with a home dual match against Findlay on Wednesday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m.
