Orlando, Fla. - The Wayne State men's tennis team ended its Orlando trip with a 6-3 victory over a very difficult Lees-McRae team. The Warriors improved to 5-3 and have now won four straight matches.
Wayne State won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles as the lengthy match had the top two singles matches go to three-set thrillers and the #2 doubles match also went to a tiebreaker.
Victorious Warriors in singles action were Donavon Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) at #2, Alejandro Gomez (Comitan Chiapas, Mexico) at #3, Ryan Buck (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) at #5 and Kevin Turnbull (Shelby Twp., Mich./Warren DeLaSalle) at #6. Antoine Marenaud (Bordeaux, France) lost a three-set thriller at #1 singles.
The Warriors won #2 and #3 doubles as the teams of Carr/Turnbull and Buck/ Vito Antonelli (Almont, Mich./Almont) defeated the teams of Alek Mojski/Romulas Teague and Charley Whiteley/Blair Propert, respectively.
Wayne State will put its winning streak alive when the Warriors host Aquinas on Saturday, March 17, at 12 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the match will be held at The Sports Club in West Bloomfield.
