West Bloomfield, Mich. - The Wayne State men's tennis team's opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 9-0 win over Findlay at The Sports Club of West Bloomfield Wednesday afternoon.

WSU (3-3, 1-0 GLIAC) begin the match by outlasting Findlay (4-3, 0-3 GLIAC) in doubles competition. The No. 1 tandem of freshman Johan Maubacq (Bussy St. Georges, France) and senior Donavon Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) nipped Travis Whipple and Steve Fox, 9-8 (9-7), while sophomores Antoine Marenaud (Bordeaux, France/Camille Jullian) and Kevin Turnbull (Shelby Twp., Mich./Warren DeLaSalle) held off Matt Thomas and Jitrat Jaidee 8-6 at the No. 2 position. At the No. 3 slot, freshmen Marlon Leone (Holly, Mich./Holly) and Felipe Fronseca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hope) took out Orry Kennedy and Nick Eby, 8-0.

During singles play, the Warriors completed the win taking all 5-of-6 six matches in straight sets as Marenaud held off Whipple, 6-2, 4-6, 13-10 at the No. 1 position while Maubacq upended Fox, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 slot. Mitchell also defeated Jaidee, 6-1, 6-3, at No.3 while Turnbull downed Thomas, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 4 slot. Leone downed Kennedy, 6-1, 6-0, and freshman Eric Szyzlowski (Canton, Mich./Canton) took out Eby, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively.

WSU continues conference play at The Sports Club of West Bloomfield with a home dual match against Michigan Tech on Friday, March 21 at 12:00 p.m.
