Midland, Mich. - No. 8 Northwood (7-2 overall, 3-0 GLIAC) won its fourth straight match as the Timberwolves defeated Wayne State (5-5 overall, 0-1 GLIAC), 9-0, Wednesday afternoon. The loss is the second in a row for the Warriors as they host GLIAC rivals Ferris State and Grand Valley State this weekend.
NU won all six singles matches in straight sets, but there were several close matches. Antoine Marenaud (Bordeaux, France) lost at #1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to the #1-ranked Teddy Mebounou, while Donavon Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) fell, 6-2, 7-6, to Henryk Seeger in #2 singles. Ryan Buck (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) played a tough first set (7-5) to Sasha Nannings in #5 singles, but was shut out, 6-0, in the second set.
Northwood won all three doubles matches as the Timbervolves only allowed four points.
Wayne State will host GLIAC foes Ferris State and Grand Valley State on Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25. Match times are set to begin at 12 p.m. each day.
