West Bloomfield, Mich. - The Wayne State men's tennis team (5-6 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) lost its second consecutive league match to its second consecutive ranked opponent as the Warriors lost to visiting #31 Ferris State (7-2, 3-0), 5-4, at The Sports Club at West Bloomfield.
The match was very evenly played as three of the six singles matches went to three sets and one other went to a tiebreaker.
Wayne State won four of six singles matches, but lost all three doubles.
Victorious Warriors were: Antoine Marenaud (Bordeaux, France) at #1 singles, Donavon Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) at #2 singles, Alejandro Gomez (Comitan Chiapas, Mexico) at #3 singles and Kevin Turnbull (Shelby Twp., Mich./Warren DeLaSalle) at #6 singles. Marenaud, Mitchell and Turnbull all won in three sets, while Gomez won by retirement after winning the first set, 6-4 and leading the second set, 1-0.
The Warriors will join the women's tennis squad and play Grand Valley State on Sunday at 12 p.m.
