DETROIT, Mich. - The Wayne State men's tennis team (3-3, 1-1 GLIAC) lost its first conference match of the season, a 6-3 decision to Mercyhurst College (8-6, 2-2 GLIAC), on Sunday at Eastside Racquet Club in Detroit.

Mercyhurst held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, despite Wayne State's first and second doubles pairs battling to close scores of 9-8 and 9-7, respectively. Ryan Buck (Shelby Twp., Mich.) and Adam Williams (Northville, Mich.) were victorious, 8-1, at the No. 3 doubles spot.

Williams and Buck also won their singles matches to go unbeaten on the afternoon. Williams defeated Rick Fowler in straight sets at No. 5 singles, and Buck won his fourth consecutive match in the sixth position, defeating David Smith in straight sets.

Wayne State will play its next three matches on the road, beginning with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference meeting at Alma on Saturday, April 1.
