Houghton, Mich. - The Wayne State men's tennis team (7-7 overall, 2-3 GLIAC) was victorious over its second league opponent in as many matches as the Warriors defeated Michigan Tech (6-13, 1-3), 8-1, Saturday morning in Houghton.
Wayne State won all six singles matches in straight sets: Antoine Marenaud (Bordeaux, France) at #1, Donavon Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) at #2, Alejandro Gomez (Comitan Chiapas, Mexico) at #3, Arthur Carrilho (Joao Pessoa, Brazil) at #4, Ryan Buck (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) at #5 and Kevin Turnbull (Shelby Twp., Mich./Warren DeLaSalle) at #6.
The doubles teams of Marenaud/Mitchell (#1) and Gomez/Carrilho (#2) were both victorious.
Gomez has won three singles matches in a row and eight out of the last nine.
The Warriors conclude the weekend road trip at Lake Superior State on Sunday at 10 a.m. Wayne State's final regular season match is at Mercyhurst on April 14.
