MIDLAND, Mich. - The sixth-seeded Wayne State men's tennis team was defeated by No. 3 Grand Valley State, 5-3, in the opening round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, held at the Midland Tennis Center.

Grand Valley held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with the duo of Adam Williams (Northville, Mich.) and Ryan Buck (Shelby Twp., Mich.) scoring the lone win for the Warriors, a close 9-7 victory over Mike Bambini and Jim Farmer.

Sebastien Foka (Choisy-le-Roi, France), who entered the tournament ranked 14th in the nation, won his third straight singles match, defeating GVSU's Kyle Dehne in straight sets. Williams was also victorious at No. 5 singles against Bambini.

Wayne State will next meet seventh-seeded Michigan Tech, as the Huskies were defeated, 5-0, by Ferris State.
