Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's tennis team (11-10) suffered a 5-3 setback to Mercyhurst (12-7) in the opening round of the 2005 GLIAC tournament being held at the Midland (MI) Tennis Center.

The Warriors, who went 4-3 during the regular season in the conference and were seeded fourth, trailed 2-1 after doubles with the lone victory coming at No. 2 by Glauber Santos and Ryan Buck.

The No. 1 tandem of Sebastien Foka and Philip Tharakan lost 9-8.

Foka rebounded for a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles while Buck claimed a straight set win at No. 6 singles.

At No. 5 singles, Mike Frolov lost a tough pivotal match 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.

Wayne State will now play Findlay this afternoon in a second round match.
