MIDLAND, Mich. - With a 5-1 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday, the Wayne State men's tennis team claimed fifth place for the second straight year at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Matt Fisher (Shelby Twp., Mich.) and Arthur Carrilho (Joao Pessoa, Brazil) defeated the Laker duo of Lee Michael Marnik and Lucas Krasowski by a score of 8-5. Adam Williams (Northville, Mich.) and Ryan Buck (Shelby Twp., Mich.) won their fourth straight doubles contest, an 8-4 decision over David Smith and Rick Fowler.

Unbeaten in singles play at the tournament, Sebastien Foka (Choisy-le-Roi, France) defeated Mariano Fava (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) in the top singles bout. Foka ended the season with a five-match winning streak.

Williams earned another singles victory as well, upending David Smith without surrendering a game (6-0, 6-0). A winner of four straight matches, Williams improved his record to a team-best 10-3 on the season.

Wayne State finishes with an overall record of 6-8 on the season.
