Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State men's tennis team (9-8 overall, 3-4 GLIAC) defeated Ferris State (8-7, 4-3), 5-4, in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament on Saturday morning. The Warriors, the fifth seed in the tournament, will play the host team, number one seed Northwood, later today in the tournament semifinals.

The Warriors won four of six singles matches as Donavon Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) was victorious at #2, Alejandro Gomez (Comitan Chiapas, Mexico) at #3, Arthur Carrilho (Joao Pessoa, Brazil) at #4 and Kevin Turnbull (Shelby Twp., Mich./Warren DeLaSalle) at #6.

The #2 doubles team of Gomez/Carrilho clinched the victory with an 8-0 win over Bryan Karazia and Brian Anderson.
