Springfield, Mo. - The Wayne State University men's tennis team (11-9) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 5-4 triumph over Mercyhurst College (14-8) Friday evening at Drury University's Cooper Tennis Complex.
The Warriors trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but rallied by winning four singles matches.
Doubles
1. Lee Marnik/Mariano Fava (MC) defeated Antoine Marenaud / Donavon Mitchell (WS) 8-3
2. Arthur Carrilho / Alejandro Gomez (WS) defeated Kyle King/Mijo Cotic (MC) 8-5
3. Ronald Heurich/Mateusz Przybysz (MC) defeated Ryan Buck / Kevin Turnbull (WS) 8-5
Singles
1. Mariano Fava (MC) defeated Antoine Marenaud (WS) 6-1, 6-3
2. Donavon Mitchell (WS) defeated Lee Marnik (MC) 7-6, 6-4(9-7)
3. Alejandro Gomez (WS) defeated Mijo Cotic (MC) 6-0, 6-1
4. Arthur Carrilho (WS) defeated Mateusz Pryzbysz (MC) 3-6, 6-3, 7-5

The Warriors will face the host Panthers (21-2) at 10 am with the winner advancing to Orlando, Fla., next Wednesday for the Sweet 16. Drury is ranked second nationally.
