Big Rapids, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's tennis team defeated conference rival Lake Superior, 5-2, Thursday morning in the 2004 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament First Round being held at Ferris State University's Racquet and Fitness Center.

The 31st-ranked Warriors have a 28-4 overall record, while the Lakers end the year with a 13-7 record.

WSU will face the winner of Thursday's second match between tournament host Ferris State and Mercyhurst on Friday (May 7) at 10 a.m. (EDT).

Friday's regional champion will earn a berth into the 16-team single elimination national championship field slated for May 12-15 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
