INDIANAPOLIS - For the second consecutive season, the #43 Wayne State men's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Division II Championships. The Warriors will travel to the campus of Drury University in Springfield, Mo. for a first round date with conference and in-state rival, #42 Grand Valley State University on Friday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m.
WSU enters the tournament with a 9-9 overall record and 4-3 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. The Warriors finished third in the 2008 GLIAC post-season tournament with a 5-2 upset win over #37 Ferris State (Apr. 20).
In the 2007 NCAA tournament, WSU defeated conference foe Mercyhurst, 5-4, before falling to regional host Drury, 5-0, in the second round.
Earlier this year, Wayne State lost a close 6-3 dual match at GVSU. The Lakers finished third in the regular season standings and lost to Northwood in the post-season tournament championship match.
