Wayne State University senior tennis player Mike Davis (Ferndale, Mich./Almont) has been named to the 2002-03 Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division Men's At-Large First Team. The College Division includes NCAA Division II and III institutions.
Davis, who graduated with a degree in physics, is currently working on his master's in secondary science education where he maintains a 3.94 grade-point average. He helped Wayne State reach the second round of the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season.
During the 2003 season, he was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team after compiling a record of 20-11 in singles competition (3-0 at #2, 13-7 at #3, 2-4 at #4, and 2-0 at #4 in the GLIAC Tournament). He teamed with Rohan Singh for a 20-11 record at first doubles. He also had a 2-1 mark with Goran Marijan (0-1 at #1 doubles, and 2-0 at #2 doubles).
The District IV Verizon Academic team was selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) located in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.
The At-Large team represents athletes from the following men's sports: crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle.
