Five members of the Wayne State University Men's Cross Country team finished in the top 10 at the UP Collegiate Opener resulting in a first-place team finish.

Senior Abdullah Saleh (Dearborn, Mich.) crossed the finish line first capturing a new meet record. Saleh ran 16:04, 20 seconds faster than the record established two years ago.

Newcomer, Kevin deBear (Plymoth, Mich.) ran 16:53 joining Saleh, Omar Saidi (Dearborn, Mich.) Dan Kapadia (Canton, Mich.) and Nick Krol (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) as a top-10 finisher. All five runners finished under 17 minutes. Also debuting at today's meet were freshmen Travis Barczak (Williamston, Mich.), Charlie Cavell (Ann Arbor, Mich.), and Alex Townsend (Farmington Hills, Mich.) 

The men's cross country team will compete again September 6 at the Running Fit-Detroit Invitational at Cass-Benton Park in Northville, Michigan. The race is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m.
