Men's Cross Country Finishes Third At Iowa Invitational

Iowa City, Iowa - The Wayne State University men's cross country team ran in the 2005 Hawkeye Open hosted by the University of Iowa Friday night. The 6k race was held at the Ashton Cross Country Course.

The Warriors placed third out of seven schools despite being the only non-Division I institution participating.

Senior Justin Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) led the Warriors with an seventh-place finish in a time of 18:47. Iowa's Eric MacTaggart took top honors with a time of 18:18.

Also running well for WSU was junior Chris Mehay (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay), who placed ninth in a time of 18:51. Redshirt freshman Abdullah Saleh (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) was 11th in a time of 18:53.

Senior Matt Fecht (Warren, Mich./Mott) placed 20th in a time of 19:02. Sophomore Kevin Christensen (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) was 26th in a time of 19:21.

Also competing for Wayne State was junior Lance Jones (Saranac, Mich./Saranac) who placed 27th in a time of 19:25, and freshman Mike Delaney (Williamston, Mich./Williamston), who placed 46th in a time of 21:07.

The next competition for WSU is Saturday, Sept. 10 in the Detroit/Tommy Titan Invitational.
