Rochester, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's cross country team placed third out of 10 schools in the 8k portion of the 2007 Michigan Intercollegiate. WSU finished with 53 points behind Lansing Community College (40) and Hillsdale (47).
Junior Abdullah Saleh (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) had another impressive performance placing second in a time of 25:50.0.
Sophomore Sam Breen (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven) was sixth (27:10.1) while senior Kevin Christensen (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) was eighth with a time of 27:11.5.
Also running for WSU were: freshman Nick Krol (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) - 18th (27:47.0), senior Dave Lucas (Dearborn, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) - 18th (24:36.4), sophomore Dan Kapadia (Canton, Mich./Salem) - 20th (27:48.0), and sophomore Vince Bechard (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) - 27th (28:02.2).
Not figuring in the top seven were: freshman Chris Tassen (Troy, Mich./Athens) - 28:45.1, freshman Omar Saidi (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) - 29:02.3, freshman Shawn Gremban (Dearborn Hts., Mich./Annapolis)- 30:09.1, and freshman Pat Webster (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) - 30:09.2.
Behind LCC, HC and the Warriors were Grand Valley (92), Albion (142), Calvin (167), Northwood (207), Jackson C.C. (223), Alma (269) and Wayne C.C. (325).
Wayne State is idle until running in the GLIAC Championship on Oct. 20 at Pleasant Ridge Park in Fairview, Pa.
