Wayne State Advances to NCAA Championship With Second-Place Finish in NCAA Regionals

Kenosha, Wisc. - The Wayne State men's cross country team finished in second out of 23 teams at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. It will be the fourth-consecutive appearance, and fifth in six years, in the NCAA Championship for the Warriors.

Redshirt-sophomore Abdullah Saleh (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) led the Warriors with a sixth-place finish. Senior Lance Jones (Saranac, Mich./Saranac) and junior Kevin Christensen (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) rounded out the top-10 with eighth and 10th-place finishes, respectively.

Also placing for WSU was senior Chris Mehay (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) (12th), senior Dave Lucas (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn Catholic Central) (24th), freshman Dan Kapadia (Canton, Mich./Salem) (30th), and graduate student Steve Mance (Royal Oak, Mich./Madison Heights Bishop Foley) (48th).

Saleh, Jones, Christensen, and Mehay were all named First Team All-Region.

The NCAA Championships will take place on Saturday, November 18, at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla.
