Detroit, Mich. - Four Wayne State men's cross country runners were named to the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country All-Region team, released on Tuesday, Nov. 7 by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA). Seniors Lance Jones (Saranac, Mich./Saranac), Chris Mehay (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay), junior Kevin Christensen (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield), and redshirt sophomore Abdullah Saleh (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) were all honored. The announcement comes just days after the team finished second overall at the Great Lakes Regional and will compete at the NCAA Championships in Pensacola, Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 18.
Christensen finished 10th overall in the Great Lakes Regional last Saturday with a time of 32:32. His best race this season came at the Michigan Intercollegiate on Oct. 6, with a seventh-place finish and a time of 24:52.
Kevin Christensen
Jones came in eighth overall last Saturday, and second on the team, with a time of 32:12. His best race this season came at the Michigan Intercollegiate on Oct. 6 with a third-place finish and a time of 24:24.
Lance Jones
Mehay came in 12th overall in the Great Lakes Regional last Saturday with a time of 32:33. His best race this season came at the Mel Brodt Invitational on Sept. 16, where he came in first overall with a time of 25:16.
Chris Mehay
Saleh led the Warriors with a sixth-place finish in Wisconsin last Saturday with a time of 32:06. His best race also came at the Michigan Intercollegiate on Oct. 6, as he recorded his first-ever first-place finish with a time of 24:14.
The NCAA Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla.
