Detroit, Mich. - The 2006 Wayne State men's cross country team accomplished several firsts this season. The Warriors ended the season winning four races, the most in team history. The squad finished the NCAA Championships in eighth place out of 24 teams, the third-best finish in school history and completed the season ranked eighth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) poll, four better than the preseason poll released in early September.

The team started the season winning three consecutive races, one better than the start of the 2000 season. WSU won the UP Collegiate Opener on Sept. 1, the Tommy Titan Invitational on Setp. 9 and the Mel Brodt Invitational on Sept. 16.

After a 10th-place finish at the 43-team Paul Short Invitational, the Warriors ended the season winning its fourth meet (Michigan Intercollegiate) and finished second in the final two races, the GLIAC Championships and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

Earning a spot in Nationals, Wayne State finished in eighth place out of 24 teams, the third-best finish in school history behind a seventh-place finish last season and a sixth-place finish in 2003. Senior Chris Mehay (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) became a two-time All-American after finishing in 28th place. He joined former Warrior standout, and assistant coach, Nick Allen, as the only two-time All-Americans.
