Final Stats

Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (3-8 overall, 1-5 GLIAC) lost its fourth consecutive league game with an 84-60 setback at Northwood University (9-2 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) on Saturday.

The host Timberwolves started strong outscoring the Warriors 13-8 in the opening five minutes including a 7-0 run to start the game. WSU was held scoreless until a triple by Brooke Bowers (Delphos, Ohio/Jefferson) at the 16:43 mark.

NU's lead remained between three and seven points until a lay-up by Joy Nash (Muskegon, Mich.) at the 12:03 mark cut the Northwood lead to 13-11. After a conventional three-point play by NU's Sara Pawlaczyk, the Warriors responded with back-to-back triples by Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA) and Chelsea Kouri (Clarkston, Mich.) for a 17-16 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half.

Five straight Northwood points preceded a jumper by Bowers, and WSU had two possessions with a chance to knot the game at 21 but a travelling call on Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering) followed by a jump ball with possession to the hosts led to a Sarah Glowacki lay-up.

WSU was within two at 23-21 and 25-23, before the Timberwolves rattled off 10 consecutive points for a 35-23 advantage with 3:41 remaining.

The Warriors responded with a 6-0 run to end the opening half.

Northwood led the entire second half despite the Warriors getting within three at 37-34 on a foul shot by Miller. NU scored nine of the next 11 points for a double-digit lead at 46-36.

Wayne State was unable to get closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Lindsey West (Royal Oak, Mich./Kimball) scored a career-high 16 points including making six-of-seven from the foul line. The six free throws made are also a career-best.

Bowers contributed 11 points, while Nash added 10.

Megan Starnes scored a game-high 24 points including eight-of-eight from the foul line. Northwood made 27-of-30 shots from the charity stripe including a stretch of 18 straight in the second half.

Wayne State returns home to host Findlay on Thursday. Tip-off at the Matthaei is slated for 5:30 p.m.
