Big Rapids, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (5-7 overall, 1-4 GLIAC) suffered a 69-61 setback at Ferris State (9-4, 4-0) Wednesday evening.

WSU took a 2-0 lead on a jumper by junior Joy Nash (Muskegon, Mich.) following a defensive rebound by Monique George (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech), but the Bulldogs scored the next six points before a three-point basket by junior Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA). After an FSU bucket, senior Nicole Rogers (Lansing, Mich./Everett) scored from inside cutting the WSU deficit to one.

Neither team could score for the next two minutes until junior Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering) scored on a lay-up from George.

Another Miller lay-up put the Warriors ahead 11-10 at the 12:51 mark. FSU scored the next five points before a lay-up by sophomore Lindsey West (Royal Oak, Mich./Kimball) with 10:32 left.

The Bulldogs scored eight consecutive points before a triple by Nash made it 23-16. McCall scored the next four points to pull the Warriors within three at 23-20. The hosts rattled off seven consecutive points before WSU outscored the Bulldogs 7-2 the rest of the half which included a conventional three-point play by Miller.

Ferris scored seven of the first nine points of the second half for a 10-point advantage at 39-29, before Rogers scored from inside. The Bulldogs led by 15 with 9:28 remaining at 52-37.

Wayne State responded with a 12-3 run keyed by six points from West and five from sophomore Brooke Bowers (Delphos, Ohio/Jefferson) to make it a six-point game at 55-49 with 6:24 left.

The Bulldogs answered with a 10-4 run and WSU was not able to get closer than eight at the final score.

McCall led WSU with 18 points, while FSU's Rachel Folcik had a game-high 19 points.

The Warriors shot 31 percent (26-83) from the floor compared to 48 percent for the Bulldogs (26-54) as both teams made 26 field goals.

FSU had a 50-39 advantage on the boards, but committed 24 turnovers to 11 for WSU.

Wayne State returns to the Matthaei for a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday against Lake Superior.

Notes:

Lindsey West had a career-high eight rebounds while scoring in double figures for the third consecutive game. She also equaled a season-high with five field goals made.

Jasmine McCall had eight rebounds, one shy of her career-high.

Nicole Rogers had 11 rebounds to move into seventh place on the WSU all-time list surpassing Marie Doss (1984-86). The 11 boards were one off her season-high.

Chastidy Miller tied a season-high with four assists. She also moved into sixth place on the WSU all-time free throws attempted chart passing Pearly Cunningham (1982-86).

Joy Nash played a season-high 38 minutes.

Ferris State has won five straight in the series.
