Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (1-1 overall) dropped a 75-51 decision Saturday afternoon to West Liberty State College in game one on day two of the 2007 Wheeling Jesuit Tip-Off Classic.
West Liberty came out strong from the very beginning as the Hilltoppers made nine three-point shots in the first half. Wayne State struggled to score early with West Liberty leading at halftime by a score of 30-18 as the Warriors shot 21.9 percent (7 of 32) from the floor and made just two of eight foul shot attempts.
Wayne State improved their offense in the second half of the game scoring 33 points. West Liberty saw their lead begin to diminish somewhat midway through the second half. However, they were able to get back on track and pull away for the victory.
Junior Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA) was the lone Warrior in double figures with 13 points. She also tied for team-high rebound honors at eight with Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering) and Nicole Rogers (Lansing, Mich./Everett).
Wayne State shot 31.8 percent (21-66) from the floor including 21.7 percent on three pointers (5 of 23) for the game.
The stat crew program did not include a play-by-play.
The Warriors have their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. against Madonna at the Matthaei.
