DETROIT - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (2-4 overall, 1-2 GLIAC) lost 68-57 to visiting Northwood University (5-1 overall, 2-1 GLIAC) Thursday evening at the Matthaei.

Warrior senior guard Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering) recorded her 1,000th career point on a free throw early in the second half to become the 14th player in WSU women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

The contest was tied three times (2-2, 5-5, 12-12) in the first 10 minutes with neither team having more than a four point advantage (WSU 9-5, 11-7).

WSU had taken a 12-10 lead as Miller split a pair from the charity stripe. NU's Pam Wilson knotted the game at 12 with a pair of free throws, which started a 13-0 run by the Timberwolves as WSU went scoreless for nearly seven minutes until a jumper by senior Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA) with 3:23 left before halftime.

The Wayne State defense held Northwood off the scoreboard for the final 3:30 of the opening 20 minutes as the Warriors rallied to within two at the break at 23-21.

Both teams shot 29 percent from the floor in the first half, but NU was 9-of-9 from the foul line, while WSU was 1-of-4.

After falling behind 27-24, Wayne State rattled off six straight points for a 30-27 just four minutes into the second half. Brooke Bowers (Delphos, Ohio/Jefferson), Miller and McCall all had buckets for the Warriors during the run.

Northwood answered with a 10-0 run until a Lindsey West (Royal Oak, Mich./Kimball) lay-up with 12:56 remaining made the score 37-32 NU.

WSU was able to get within four at 37-33 (free throw by Bowers) and 40-36 (triple by Bowers) but that would be as close as the hosts would get as Northwood had a 12-4 run for a double-digit lead at 52-40.

NU's Jodi Ostergren scored a game-high 19 points to lead three Timberwolves in double figures. Bowers led WSU with 17 points, while Miller (16) and McCall (13) reached double figures for the fifth and sixth times, respectively this season.

Northwood had a 43-33 rebounding edge with WSU freshman Felicia Thomas (Kalamazoo, Mich./Central) grabbing a team-high seven boards.

The Timberwolves finished the game 19-of-19 from the foul line, while the Warriors made 8-of-15.

Wayne State is idle for exams until an Upper Peninsula trip next week to Northern Michigan (Dec. 18) and Michigan Tech (Dec. 20).
