Houghton, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (2-6 overall, 1-4 GLIAC) battled 14th-ranked Michigan Tech (8-1 overall, 5-0 GLIAC) even for the first 20 minutes but eventually fell 73-58 at the SDC Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors were tied at 33 with the Huskies at intermission in part to shooting 54 percent (7-of-13) from beyond the arc in the first half. Senior Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA) went 4-of-5 from the three-point land in the opening 20 minutes as she scored 16 points. Sophomore Chelsea Kouri (Clarkston, Mich.) made two three-pointers and contributed six points and a team-best four rebounds before halftime.

A lay-up by senior Joy Nash (Muskegon, Mich.) 2:30 into the second half knotted the game at 35 but the Huskies went on a 14-7 run over the next seven minutes for a 49-42 advantage.

The Warriors were able to get within four points on three different occasions (49-45, 51-47 and 53-49) before a 9-3 Michigan Tech spurt for a double-digit lead at 62-52.

The second half key was MTU shot 65 percent from the floor on 11-of-17 while WSU shot 36 percent on 10-of-28.

The Huskies had a 33-23 lead on the boards and outscored the Warriors 11-3 on second chance points.

McCall finished with a game-high 23 points while making a career-best five triples. Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering) grabbed a team-best six rebounds.

Katie Wysocky led four Huskies in double figures with 18 points. Sarah Stream contributed 17 points. Wysocky also had a game-high 11 rebounds.

Wayne State had just 10 turnovers and nine steals but were 1-of-8 from beyond the arc in the second half.

The Warriors next two games will be their final non-GLIAC contests of the season. WSU visits Southern Indiana on Dec. 29 before hosting Edinboro on Dec. 31.
