Women's Basketball Signs Four For 2009-10

DETROIT--Wayne State University head women's basketball coach Gloria Bradley has announced the signing of four high school seniors to a National Letter of Intent.

All four hail from Michigan and include 5-11 guard Phaebre Colbert (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern), 5-11 guard Deanna Crumpton (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood), 6-0 forward Chelsea Davis (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem) and 5-9 guard Tyler Hardy (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron).

"I am really pleased with this class," said Bradley. "It covers all positions and each athlete is going to be very high on all-state selections this year."

Colbert was a starter for coach Stephanie Hare where she averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game as a junior. She earned honorable mention all-tournament team honors at the 2008 Great Lakes Summer Showcase. Colbert has also competed in track and placed 12th in the 400m (1:00.99) at the 2008 Division 2 State track championship. She finished fifth in the long jump at the 2007 State track meet with a distance of 15'08. Colbert also competed in the 400m and 800m relays and both relays were state champions.

The daughter of Marvin and Pamela Colbert, she plans to major in business management or sports medicine.

Crumpton started for coach Laurie Young and averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists per game as a junior to earn 2008 Class A Special Mention All-State team honors. She also competed in track and placed sixth at the 2008 Division I state track meet in the high jump (5-0) and 10th in the long jump (14-3.50) helping the Falcons to a second-place team finish. She was third in the high jump as a sophomore as EKHS won the team state title. Crumpton has also earned all-academic honors.

The daughter of Dennis and Diane Triggs, she plans to major in hospitality management.

Davis is a starter for head coach Fred Thomann. She earned Detroit Free Press Class A Honorable Mention All-State honors as a junior after averaging 11 points, eight rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. Davis had 10 blocks, 10 rebounds, nine points and six assists as the Rocks beat Livonia Churchill, 52-28, in January 2008. Earlier that month, she had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks against Walled Lake Northern.

The daughter of Damon Davis and Sonya Reeves, she plans to major in business.

Hardy is a four-year starter for the River Rats and head coach Steve Vinson. She earned Detroit Free Press Class A Second Team All-State honors as a junior as well as Associated Press Honorable Mention accolades. Hardy earned Class A Honorable Mention All-State honors as a sophomore after averaging 18.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest. She scored 25 points in a 40-39 win over Ann Arbor Pioneer in January 2008.

The daughter of Steven and Lisa Hardy, she plans to major in communications.
