New York, N.Y. - The Wayne State University women's fencing squad compiled a 1-3 record last Sunday at the New York University Duals.
WSU's returning All-Americans, Anna Garina, Justyna Konczalska and Kasia Kuzniak, each had 10 victories on the day.
The Warriors began the day with a 14-13 loss to St. John's. In the epee Konczalska went 2-0 as SJU only fielded two competitors. In the foil, Erin Stranyak and Lindsey Howard each had a victory. Kuzniak won three sabre bouts while Ann Bartoszewicz had two victories.
In the second round, WSU had a 15-12 triumph over New York University. Both Garina and Konczalska went 3-0 in the epee as did Kuzniak and Bartoszewicz in the sabre.
After a round three bye, the Warriors suffered a 17-10 loss to Yale. Both Garina and Konczalska went 3-0 in the epee with Kuzniak winning all three of her sabre bouts.
In the final round, Columbia defeated WSU 20-7. Garina had three epee wins, while Konczalska earned two more triumphs.
