Notre Dame, Ind. - The Wayne State University women's fencing team traveled to South Bend, Ind. on Jan. 31-Feb.1 for the Notre Dame Duals. WSU faced four ranked opponents including No. 1 University of Notre Dame. The Warriors compiled a 3-6 record at the meet. Wayne State entered the weekend bouts as the No. 13-ranked team in the country.
Sophomore Anna Garina (Kiev, Ukraine/Republican School) posted a 21-2 mark in the women's epee. Junior Anna Vinnikov (Ma'a lot, Israel/ORT Ma'a lot) compiled a 19-4 record. Both Garina and Vinnikov earned victories over Notre Dame's Kerry Walton, who won the 2002 NCAA Women's Epee Championship.
Freshman Lindsey Howard (Goshen, Ind./Mishawaka) led the Warriors with a 19-6 record in the foil.
Wayne State has a 6-8 overall dual meet mark. The Warriors next test will be at the Cleveland State Duals on Saturday, Feb. 7.
