Evanston, Ill. - The Wayne State University women's fencing squad compiled a 2-4 mark Saturday at the Northwestern University Duals.
The Warriors began the day with a 17-10 loss to Penn State. Kasia Kuzniak Ann Bartoszewicz each won twice in the sabre. Justyna Konczalska won all three of her epee bouts, while Anna Garina recorded two victories and Alyse Schneider one.
Northwestern defeated WSU 19-8 in the second round. Kuzniak and Bartoszewicz were each double winners in the sabre. Garina went 3-0 in the epee, while Konczalska had the other WSU win.
In round three, the Warriors lost 15-12 to Temple. Kuzniak and Bartoszewicz were each double winners in the sabre, while Lindsey Howard won two bouts in the foil. Garina and Konczalska each went 3-0 in the epee.
Wayne State suffered another 15-12 setback in round four, this time falling to North Carolina. Kuzniak and Bartoszewicz each went 3-0 in the sabre with Howard recorded WSU's lone foil win. Garina had a 3-0 mark in the epee with Konczalska recording two victories.
The Warriors bounced back in round five to post a 17-10 triumph over Johns Hopkins. Kuzniak and Bartoszewicz each went 3-0 in the sabre, while Howard won all three of her foil bouts. Garina and Konczalska each went 3-0 in the epee while Schneider had two wins.
WSU ended the competition with a 22-5 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. Kuzniak, Bartoszewicz and Alicia Chmielewski each went 2-0 as FDU only had two competitors in the sabre. Howard went 2-0 in the foil, with Melanie Kwiatkowsski and Erin Stranyak each having a 1-1 record. FDU only had two foilists. Garina and Konczalska each went 3-0 in the epee.
