State College, Pa. - Wayne State University women fencers competed as individuals in the 2003 M. Garret Penn State Open held on Sunday, November 23, in State College, Pa.
WSU's top performer in the epee was sophomore Anna Garina (Calabasas, Calif./Republican School/Kiev, Ukraine) who won first place defeating 2002 NCAA Champion Kerry Walton of Notre Dame. Junior Anna Vinnikov (Ma'alot, Israel/ORT Ma'alot) placed 17th in the epee.
Freshman Lindsey Howard (Goshen, Ind./Mishawaka) placed 15th in the foil, while senior Kathryn Hefner (Hartland, Mich./Walled Lake Central) was 43rd.
Junior Jinelle Lawson (Clayton, Mich./Sand Creek Community) competed in the sabre and placed 17th.
The Warriors are idle until hosting the Michigan Open on Saturday, December 6 at the Matthaei.
