DETROIT - The Wayne State university women's fencing team was lead by senior Justyna Konczalska (Innsbruck, Austria/BORG Innsbruck) who claimed her first individual title of the season at the Istvan Danos/Michigan Open held Sunday afternoon at the Matthaei Gym.

Konczalsak defeated Michigan State's Erin MacCourtney in the eppe competition. MSU's Sars Bowers finished third while WSU redshirt freshmen Ema Bercea (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) and Samantha Barc (Clinton Twp., Mich./Fraser) placed 9th and 13th respectively.

Sophomore Anna Bartoszewicz (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) garnered third place honors in the sabre event. Detroit's Roberta Sims defeated U-M's Amy Ross to claim the individual title with sophomore Anna Kotov (W. Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) finishing 6th.

In the foil competition, freshman Samantha Strassburg (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) was Wayne State's highest finisher coming in 4th while freshman Rachel Broderick (Fraser, Mich./Fraser) finished in 15th place tie. Michigan's Colleen Campbell earned the individual title defeating Detroit's Emily Ames while U-M's Michelle Leah placed 3rd.
