Four members of the Wayne State University women's fencing squad have qualified for next week's NCAA Championship at Drew University's William E. and Carol G. Simon Forum and Athletic Center in Madison, New Jersey.

Senior Anna Garina (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior Justyna Konczalska (Innsbruck, Austria) have been selected to compete in the epee at the 2007 NCAA Championship on March 24-25. Participating in the sabre will be junior Kasia Kuzniak (Konin, Poland) and freshman Ann Bartoszewicz (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower).

Women's rounds 1-4 will begin at 10 am on Saturday, March 24 with rounds 5-7 starting at 9:30 am on Sunday, March 25. The women's gold medal bouts are slated for 2 pm on the 25th.

Twenty-four fencers will compete in a round-robin of five-touch bouts. After the round-robin, the top four fencers in each event (weapon) will fence direct elimination 15-touch bouts for first, second, third and fourth place. Absolute ties for the seeding will be broken as follows: for positions one through three, by a coin toss; for position four, by a fence-off.

An institution's finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes for the duration of the championships.
