ST. CLOUD, Minn. - In its first game at the Easton Showcase, the 10th-ranked Wayne State University women's hockey team (13-3-1) defeated host St. Cloud State (9-8-2), 3-2, on Friday night at the National Hockey Center.

The Warriors, who have won four straight and 10 of their last 11 games, scored the first three goals and held on despite a pair of tallies by the Huskies in the second period.

Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) scored the game-winner, her 17th goal of the season, while Natalie Payne (Mississauga, Ont./Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) finished with a goal and an assist for her fourth multiple-point game of the year.

An unassisted goal from Chelsea Burnett (Ridgeway, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) accounted for the only scoring in the first period. Early in the second, two SCSU penalties called seven seconds apart ultimately resulted in a pair of WSU power-play goals.

Payne scored her fourth of the season from Alyssa Baldin (Mississauga, Ont./Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) during a 5-on-3 advantage at the 1:46 mark. Boal's subsequent game-winning goal at 3:16 from Micheline Frappier (Val Caron, Ont./Sudbury Lady Wolves) and Payne gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead.

The Huskies narrowed their deficit to one as Holly Roberts and Caitlin Hogan made it a 3-2 game by the end of the period. The Warriors were able to hold the hosts at bay in a scoreless third period, despite a 14-9 shots on goal advantage for St. Cloud State.

Goaltender Lindsey Park (Thornhill, Ont./Toronto Jr. Aeros) totaled a season-high 33 saves and improved to 5-1-1 on the season.

Wayne State will face North Dakota on Saturday at 5:07 p.m. ET.

Wayne State is 5-3-0 in one-goal games ... Boal leads WSU with 29 points ... Park has won each of her last three starts ... the Warriors have defeated the Huskies in each of their last four meetings and five of the last six.
