Taylor, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's hockey team tied a school record with five goals in the second period en route to a 6-2 win over Quinnipiac Friday afternoon at the Taylor SportsPlex. The Warriors are now unbeaten over their last four-games.

Win the win, WSU improves to 11-6-2 while Quinnipiac falls to 3-15-4.

WSU was led by juniors Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) and Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) who each notched two goals. Sophomore Christine Jefferson (Nepean, Ont./NCCP Junior Raiders) also recorded her first goal of the season while junior Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Radiers) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.

Quinnipiac got goals from Trudy Reyns and Elyse Cole.

Between the pipes, senior Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) picked up her sixth win of the season making 12 saves to remain unbeaten in her last four consecutive starts.

After a scoreless first period, WSU broke the game open in the second with five unanswered goals. Jefferson got WSU on the board with a shot from the point that made it though traffic and found the back of the net. Poyton followed with a power-play maker from Chelsea Burnett (Ridgeway, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres and DiPietro for a 2-0 lead. WSU was able to get two more goals from Poyton and DiPietro during 4-on-4 situations. DiPietro then took an entry pass from Burnett at the point and moved it over to Boal who capped off the play with a blistering shot from the right side to beat Tia Wishheart for the Warriors' second power-play goal of the period.

Reyns got Quinnipiac on the board at the 8:09 mark of the third period. Poyton then added her second goal of the game followed by a tally from Cole with 4:51 remaining.

Wayne State returns to the City Sports Center in Detroit, Mich. for the series finale Saturday Jan.19. at 2:00 p.m.
