Hamden, Conn. - The Wayne State women's hockey team (9-14-1) defeated Quinnipiac (7-18-1), 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors, who have never lost to the Bobcats, lead the all-time series, 7-0-1.

Sophomore forward Amanda Hungle (Regina, Saskatchewan/Regina Wild) celebrated her first series of the new year by scoring her first game-winning goal of the season in the third period.

Wayne State jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by sophomore forward Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators), senior forward Laura Monk (Mississauga, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) and freshman forward Katrina Protopapas (Chatham, Ontario/Bluewater Hawks).

Quinnipiac would pull to within a goal (3-2) in the second period on tallies from Jennifer MacLean and Ashley Jaffray. Jaffray's goal came with just 18 seconds left in the period.

Hungle would give the Warriors some breathing room in the third period to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead just under five minutes into the period, but QU's Hayley McMeekin scored 10 minutes later to finish the scoring.

Wayne State held a slim 30-29 lead in shots as both WSU's Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) and QU's Janelle Wolitski made 26 saves.
