Moon Twp, Pa - The Wayne State University women's hockey team opened conference play in dominating fashion with a 6-1 win over Robert Morris Friday night at the Island Sports Center. With the victory, WSU (13-6-2, 1-0-0 CHA) set a season-high five-game win streak and is unbeaten over the last six games. Junior Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) recorded four assists setting a school record with 34 on the season while tying the record for most assists in a game.

Junior Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) tallied two goals (including the game-winner) and three assists for a total of five points to earn No. 1 star of the game honors while DiPietro garnered No. 2 star accolades adding a goal for a five point game effort. Sophomore Chelsea Burnett (Ridgeway, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) also notched her first goal of the season. Junior Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) scored a goal along with three assists while Junior Sammi Bowers (Littleton, Col./Colorado Selects (North Dakota) added a goal.

Senior Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) picked up her eighth win of the season making 24 saves to remain unbeaten in her last six consecutive starts.

Robert Morris' (10-14-1, 0-3-0) lone tally was recorded by Kristen Miles. .

The game was nip and tuck through the first period. DiPietro notched her first goal just a 1:15 into the game from Boal and Poyton giving WSU a 1-0 lead. RMU responded with Miles' tally to tie the score heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, the WSU offense exploded putting four goals past RMU goalie Brianne McLaughlin who entered the game as the league leader with a .992 save percentage. The Warriors got two goals from Boal along with tallies from Bowers and Poyton to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

Burnett added a goal in the third period beating back up RMU net minder Daneca Butterfield to close out the 6-1 Warrior win.

The series finale between Wayne State and Robert Morris is set for Saturday Jan. 26 at 7:35 p.m.
