MOON TWP., Pa. - The Wayne State women's hockey team (9-12-4, 1-1-1 CHA) extended its winning streak to three games with a 4-2 victory at Robert Morris (1-17-1, 0-3-0 CHA) on Friday night.

In the first period, which saw Wayne State outshoot RMU, 16-2, Amanda Hungle (Regina, Sask./Regina Wild) netted her second goal of the season at 2:22 to put the Warriors on top, 1-0. Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) and Laura Monk (Mississauga, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres), who extended her points streak to five games, earned assists on the goal.

Poyton scored her CHA-leading 18th goal of the season at 9:39 in the second period to increase WSU's lead to 2-0, with assists from Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) and Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators).

With that assist, Boal is now in sole possession of the single-season assists (19) and points (30) records.

The game-winner came off the stick of assistant captain Peyton Patterson (Brampton, Ont./Toronto Sting) at 17:00, her first of the season. Assists were credited to DiPietro, who has five multi-point games this season, and Kristy Leng (Lindenhurst, Ill./Wisconsin Wild), who has five points in the last three games.

Through two periods of play, Wayne State held a 32-10 advantage in shots on goal.

Robert Morris would not go away quietly, however, as Kristin Miles scored a power-play goal just 55 seconds into the third period to put the Colonials on the board.

Less than two minutes later, Ali Proodian scored her third of the season, short-handed, to bring RMU within a goal.

Boal sealed the win on a power play for the Warriors at 13:43 in the period with her 12th goal of the season. Kristi Thome (Euclid, Ohio/Ohio Flames), earning her first point since Nov. 19 at Cornell, and DiPietro were credited with assists.

Warrior goaltender Tiffany Thompson (Dryden, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) made 15 saves for her second win of the season. RMU's Brianne McLaughlin saved 39 of WSU's 43 shots on goal.

The two squads will meet in the second game of the series on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.
