Niagara, N.Y. - The Wayne State University women's hockey team remained undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 shutout victory over Niagara at Dwyer Arena. With the win, WSU (15-6-2, 3-0-0 CHA) set a school record with a seven-game win streak eclipsing the old mark of six set during the 2004-05 season. The Warriors are also unbeaten over the last eight games.

Senior Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) earned No. 2 star of the game honors with 32 saves to pick up her 10th win and third shutout of the season giving her eight for her career. Turcotte is now unbeaten in her last eight consecutive starts.

Offensively, WSU was led by junior Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont./Ottawa Lady Senators) who tallied thee points with a goal and two assists earning No. 1 star of the game honors. Junior Amanda Hungle (Regina, Sask./Team Saskatchewan/Regina Wild) recorded her first goal of the season which proved to be the game winner. Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) also recorded a three-point night with a goal and two assists while No. 3 star Katrina Protopapas (Chatham, Ont./Bluewater Hawks) notched a goal and assist.

Defensively, the WSU penalty kill unit held Niagara to a 0-for-5 mark.

Half way through a nip and tuck first period, Hungle got Wayne State on the board, 1-0, stuffing home a lose puck on assists from senior Ashley King (Winnipeg, Man./River East Lightning) and junior Becky Sonn (Waupaca, Wis./Madison Capitols).

At the 5:28 mark of the second period, Poyton put WSU up two goals, 2-0, on a feed from Protopapas and DiPietro.

The Warriors added to its lead at the 8:41 mark of the third period as DiPietro found the back of the net to go up 3-0. The three goal advantage would hold until Protopapas added a power-play insurance marker with just 56 seconds left in the game to secure the 4-0 win.

The series finale between Wayne State and Niagara is set for Sunday Feb. 3 at 2:00 p.m.
