Detroit, Mich. - The Wayne State women's hockey team (13-17-1, 5-6-0 CHA) rallied from a two-goal third period deficit to defeat visiting Robert Morris (11-20-2, 1-10-0 CHA) Friday afternoon at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum. The win, coupled with Niagara's 2-1 loss versus No. 1 Mercyhurst earlier today, puts the Warriors and Purple Eagles tied for second place in the conference with one game remaining.

The Colonials led 2-0 in the first period on goals from Jordan Riley and Chelsea Walkland. Riley's marker came just 10 seconds after Wayne State was whisted for a penalty.

The Warriors cut the deficit to 2-1 just 29 seconds after RMU's second goal when Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) shot under the glove hand of RMU netminder Brianne McLaughlin.

Wayne State tied the game at two when Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) scored on a one-timer set up by Katrina Protopapas (Chatham, Ontario/Bluewater Hawks) and Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders). But Robert Morris took a 3-2 lead just 30 seconds after Poyton's goal when Morgan Beikirch scored off a rebound.

The third period is when the wheels came off for RMU as Wayne State scored three unanswered, starting with Boal's even-strength marker at the 13 minute mark. Brandi Frakie (St. Louis Park, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds) and Boal completed the scoring less than two minutes apart.

With two points today, Melissa Boal is one point shy of Kelly Zamora's point total of 89. She needs one point to tie Zamora and two to become the program's all-time point scorer.

Wayne State outshot the Colonials, 34-8, as McLaughlin made 29 saves for RMU and Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan) made five saves for WSU.

The teams will complete the weekend series tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. It will be "Senior Day" for Laura Monk (Mississauga, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres).
