NIAGARA, N.Y. - The Wayne State women's hockey team (14-14-5, 6-3-2 CHA) had its four-game winning streak snapped at Niagara (9-20-4, 2-8-1 CHA) on Friday night, as the Purple Eagles skated to a 3-2 victory.

NU's Chelsea Donovan scored twice in the first 3:33 of the contest to put the Purple Eagles up, 2-0. Wayne State freshman Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont./Stoney Creek Sabres) cut the deficit in half with her 28th goal of the season at the 8:30 mark, extending her goal-scoring streak to 11 games. Senior blueliners Peyton Patterson (Brampton, Ont./Toronto Sting), who has a three-game point streak, and Rachael Benninger (Huntington Beach, Calif./California Selects) each assisted on the play.

Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Ottawa Raiders) tied the game at two with a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 10:35 of the second period, her 23rd goal of the season. Patterson and Poyton each tallied their second point of the night with an assist on the goal.

Boal has a point in 11 of her last 12 games, while Poyton has three straight multi-point games.

Wayne State was assessed both a slashing penalty and a bench minor at 11:11, and it proved costly when Amy Jack scored the eventual game-winner on the Niagara 5-on-3 power play at 12:46. After a scoreless third period, NU secured the 3-2 victory.

The Warriors outshot the Purple Eagles, 41-23, but only managed one goal in 11 power play opportunities, as Niagara had 13 penalties in the game. NU went 1-for-6 on the power play.

Warrior goaltender Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Que./Royal Metabetchouan) made 20 saves in the contest, and NU's Allison Rutledge saved 39 of WSU's 41 shots for her ninth win of the season.

The two squads will meet tomorrow in the final regular-season game of the season, starting at 2:00 p.m.
