NIAGARA, N.Y. - The Wayne State women's hockey team (14-15-5, 6-4-2 CHA) was unable to avoid a sweep at Niagara (10-20-4, 3-8-1 CHA), falling 2-1 in overtime to the Purple Eagles in the final regular season game on Saturday at Dwyer Arena.

Emilie Castonguay scored her first goal of the season to put the Purple Eagles in front, 1-0 at 12:20 of the first period. Katie Gray and Katie Sweeney assisted on the play.

That would prove to be the only goal in the first two periods, despite a 23-17 advantage in shots on goal for Wayne State.

Senior defenseman Sarah Campbell (Smithers, B.C./Vancouver Griffins) tied the game with her third goal of the season, assisted by Amanda Hungle (Regina, Sask./Regina Wild) at 11:36 of the third period.

At the 4:23 mark of overtime, however, Chelsea Donovan scored the game-winner, ending the Warriors' hopes for ending the season with a winning record.

Sophomore goaltender Tiffany Thompson (Dryden, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) had 25 saves, while NU's Allison Rutledge saved 38 shots for her 10th win of the season.

Wayne State is hosting the CHA Championships next weekend, March 9-12, at the Michigan State Fairgrouds Coliseum. Tickets are available by calling Jeff Evans at 1-877-WSU-TIKS.
