Canton, N.Y. - Saints' sophomore forward Lisa Batchelor picked up where she left off yesterday as she scored her third goal of the season and the #4-ranked St. Lawrence Saints defeated visiting Wayne State, 4-1, at Appleton Arena. The Saints improved to 2-0-0, while the Warriors dropped to 0-2-0 on the young season.

Warrior sophomore forward Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ontario/Ottawa Raiders) scored the lone goal for the Warriors, a short-handed tally just seven seconds into the third period. It was Boal's third point of the season and her 51st of her career, passing former Warrior Kim Spaulding (2000-04) for third place all-time in Warrior women's hockey history in career points. She is just six points off of second place Katie Jones (2000-04) and 38 points behind leader Kelly Zamora (2001-05).

St. Lawrence scored twice in the opening period, as sophomore forward Marianna Locke scored her first goal of the season, beating junior netminder Valery Turcotte ((Jonquiere, Quebec/Royal Metabetchouan). Senior forward Chelsea Grills added what proved to be the game-winner at the 14 minute mark.

After Batchelor's goal made it 3-0 Saints, Boal's goal cut the deficit to two. Things were quiet until senior forward Sabrina Harbec's empty net goal with just over a minute remaining in the game put the nail in the coffin for the Warriors. It was Harbec's second goal of the season as she scored the game-winner in Friday's game.

SLU outshot Wayne State 42-14. Turcotte made 39 saves, including 16 in the third period. Turcotte's counterpart, freshman Maxie Weisz, stopped 13 Warrior shots.

Wayne State was whistled for nine penalties for 18 minutes against St. Lawrence's four for eight. One of WSU's penalties ended up a penalty shot late in the first period, but Turcotte was up for the task as she kept the score at 2-0.

The Warriors will have a week off before traveling to Troy, N.Y. for a weekend series at Rensselaer on Friday and Saturday, October 20-21 at 7 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
