DETROIT, Mich. - The women's hockey team (0-3-1 overall) lost its third straight game, dropping a 4-0 decision to top-ranked St. Lawrence on Saturday at City Sports Center Arena.
Saints forward Carson Duggan had a hat trick for the Saints, including the first goal of the game just 21 seconds into the opening period that snuck between the pads of Warrior goaltender Valery Turcotte (Jonquiere, Que./Royal Metabetchouan). She followed that up at the 11:56 mark in a four-on-four situation, and the Saints led 2-0 at the end of the first period, having outshot the Warriors 11-4.
The second period scoring began almost as quickly, as Duggan placed herself in front of Turcotte and tipped in her third goal just 37 seconds into the period. 27 seconds later, forward Crystal Connors completed the scoring on the day with her second goal of the season (1:04) to put the Saints ahead 4-0.
Forward Sabrina Harbec also recorded three points in the game, assisting on each of Duggan's goals, and goaltender Jess Moffat picked up her first shutout of the season, making 18 saves.
The Warriors' struggles on the power play continued, as they were unable to capitalize on any of the eight chances they had in the game, including a two-skater advantage midway through the third period. They have just one power-play goal this season.
Wayne State did manage to kill all three of the Saints' power plays, limiting them to just three shots on special teams. The Warriors have successfully killed 17 of their opponents' 18 chances this season (.944).
The Warriors will battle Clarkson in a two-game series next weekend, Oct. 21-22, at City Sports Center Arena.
